Class?

So I sort of forgot why I came to London. Despite all the touring around, picture taking and pub hopping, I originally came here for educational stimulation. Aka school….ew.

Back home I planned lots of trips and visiting other countries completely forgetting that I would have classes during the week.

First of all, classes I am discovering that Europe has a very different teaching curriculum then the states. Overall it is a lot easier except for one tiny fact, you are graded on attendance. They expect 100% attendance and if you miss a class you must have a doctor’s note, if no note then you must meet with the dean. ARE YOU SERIOUS? I’m studying abroad! I am defiantly going to miss a Monday morning or 2.

Secondly, the classes are longer then I am used to and are held at the oddest hours. 6-9 pm 9-10:25am and no one on campus has class between 12:20-2. Bizarre.

However I am slowly getting used to the idea that I have to attend class and as I am doing so I am finding the classes I’m taking are very cool. A level 450 History course on European Fascism which is blowing my mind because everyone in it is SOOOOO well read. I’m also taking my first women studies course and it kicks some serious British bum. It’s called “Behind the veil; Women in the Classical World” and is educating me on the Greek goddess that ruled the world while the men bowed down to serve them. My kind of life.

Some serious sightseeing will be done this weekend so I will have a lot to talk about as well as a picture of the brand new THIGH HIGH black boots I bought (get excited.) Also on Saturday I will be attending Abby’s (a girl in the flat) 21st Birthday which is being celebrated in an ICEBAR.

Oh yea. Ice bar. Entirely made of ice. I’m pretty much P Ditty.

Lots of love

Just touched down in London Town

Dear London,

You are crazy. Your drivers are ABSOLUTLY INSANE. Witnessed an accident today (second one since arriving 3 days ago, coincidence? I think not) and saw the driver responsible pause, then speed away. Ridiculous. You also let drivers park in every direction on both sides of the road. Looking at the street below my flat reminds me of the train game where you shift the cars around to get the little red car out of the of the maze.

Happier news though your also beautiful. The buildings around downtown either look like little castles or are very brand new and high tech looking. I need some Motrin for my neck because I have pulled it from looking up all the time.

The flat I am staying at is amazing. I am in flat 6 on Gower Street, which is sadly a solid 15 minute walk to school, but that’s its only fault. We are right next to a million Indian restaurants and 2 minutes away from a main tube station. My room is roomy and has a huge bathroom with…..(drum roll) a towel warmer. This is how I feel about a towel warmer. It is Transcendent

Transcendent…. Completely absorbing,

So sure of its own scale and scope that

While you’re watching it the rest of the world

Fades into irrelevance

It is simply, the greatest invention. Maybe we have towel warmers in the USA and I’m just not rich enough or fancy enough to know it, but I am truly in love. I step out of my shower onto an icy floor and wrap myself into a heavenly warm and toasty blanket of love. Hello city of dreams.

My roommates are all study abroad students so it seems Regents exiled all the Americans to one building haha. However it’s a good time because now we all just run around the city equal confused and lost. The British people have mixed emotions about us American students. Some are very friendly and love to help us any way they can, others don’t give us the time of day.

My roommate, Julie is from Kentucky and is fairly hilarious with her sweet swinging vowels and southern sense of right and wrong. We are getting along great. Unfortunately, for those of you, who know me; know I cannot resist an accent. I find myself picking up her southern twang. HOW EMBARESSING. I am going to come with more “y’alls” then “bloody hells”

Well I am going to call it a night but enjoy some of my pictures of our flat

Miss everybody!!!!
